Please note that there are three types of visits:
- CERN Visits Service visits. Typically these visits are part of a full daily program organized for groups and are scheduled in on fixed time slots during working days and on Saturdays (10.00-12.00 and 15.00-17.00). These visits are guided by officially trained CERN Visits Service Guides, who are not necessarily members of the AMBER collaboration. These visits take an hour and each guide is allowed to take up to 12 visitors. A maximum of 48 visitors is allowed at all times. Note that the CERN Visits Service plays an intermediate role between the visitors and the AMBER collaboration; the visitors are only in contact with them. Please contact the CERN Visits Service directly and take into consideration several weeks to months to plan in your visit (depending on the total number of visitors at CERN and the size of your group). The CERN Visits Service needs to receive safety authorization for all visits from the AMBER Visits Coordinator.
- Escorted visits. These visits are directly organized via the AMBER Visits Coordinator. AMBER members are encouraged to show students from their university around at AMBER and should contact the AMBER Visits Coordinator directly and have priority over other visiting groups. Also groups who want to organize an additional visit to the programme offered by the CERN Visits Service, can try to arrange a visit to AMBER directly, but do not have priority and need to have their own transport available. Escorted visits are preferrably guided by AMBER members, (typically the persons who are permanently installed at CERN or who are regularly at CERN), but can also be guided by officially trained CERN Visits Service Guides. The AMBER experts as well as the CERN Visits Service Guides are again allowed to take up to 12 visitors per guide. As mentioned above a maximum of 48 visitors is allowed at all times. Note that for escorted visits, the date, time, safety authorization and guides must be organized in due time (>2 weeks before the planned visit), therefore, please contact the AMBER Visits Coordinator as soon as you plan to visit AMBER. To avoid clashes between groups, the escorted visits most often take place between the following hours: 9.00-10.00, 12.00-14.00 and after 17.00.
- Private visits. These visits are organized by the responsible guide (either AMBER member or officially trained CERN Visits Service Guide), but have to be agreed upon with the AMBER Visits Coordinator. Private visits are more flexible since the guide is allowed to only take up to 6 visitors with him/her. Guides who are planning a private visit will get special instructions from the AMBER Visits Coordinator.
During the recent years, visits to AMBER were coordinated by:
- 2020-2022: Stefano Levorato
- 2023-ongoing: Moritz Benjamin Veit
- 2024-ongoing: Christophe Menezes Pires
