Detector naming scheme
Detectors are named by a 8-character long string:
DDCCOPla
where
| DD | 2 characters | specifying the detector type (e.g. ST for straw) |
| CC | 2 digits | for the station number |
| O | 1 char. | specifying orientation to be measured (X,Y,(+)U,(-)V, P(ixel)) |
| P | 1 digit | specifying the plane number in the chamber (within the specified orientation) |
| l | 1 char. | specifying layer position in a plane (upstr.,downstr.) if any |
| a | 1 char. | specifying additional detector parameters (left,right,center,top,bottom) if any |

So a station is defined by 4 digits DDCC, e.g.: PA05, EC02, GM10.
A detector plane can have 6 digits, e.g. DC01X2, or 8 digits, e.g. ST02Y1uc
